About the Panel Health Check

An electrical panel is the heart of your home's power, and most homeowners never think about theirs until something goes wrong. The hard part is knowing whether what you are seeing is normal wear or a real reason to act. Age, brand, capacity, and the little warning signs all matter, and they add up differently for every home.

This Panel Health Check walks you through the same questions a licensed electrician would start with. It is built to help you explore in your own research phase, not to tell you what to do. At the end you get a plain-language read on where your panel stands and which path usually fits your situation. If you want a real answer, you can text us a photo of your panel to verify what you have, or we will take a full look in person for free.

If you already know what you are dealing with, you can jump straight to the page that fits. Learn the warning signs on our panel problems pages, read up on older brands in the panel guide, or see every panel service we offer across South Orange County.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Panel Health Check a real diagnosis

No, and that is on purpose. It is a research tool that helps you understand the signals your panel is giving you. The only way to know for sure is to have a licensed electrician look at it in person. You can text a photo of your panel to (949) 799-2034 and we will verify what you have, or we will do a full assessment free with no obligation.

How do I know what brand or type of panel I have

Open the metal door on your panel and look for a name on the inside of the door, on the breakers, or on the label. Common older names are Federal Pacific, Stab-Lok, Zinsco, Pushmatic, and Challenger. If you cannot tell, snap a photo of the label and the open panel and text it to us, and we will tell you what it is.

Does an older panel always need to be replaced

Not always. Some older panels run fine for years, while a few brands are a known fire risk and most insurers no longer want to cover them. Capacity matters too, since adding an EV charger, heat pump, or AC can outgrow an older service. The Panel Health Check helps you sort out which situation you are likely in.

What does a panel upgrade usually cost in South Orange County

It depends on the panel, the size of the service, and what the meter and service entrance need. Most jobs land in a wide range, and the only honest number is the one we put in writing after a free on-site look. Our panel upgrade page walks through what drives the price.

Do you serve my city

We focus on South Orange County and the SCE service territory, including Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Dana Point, San Clemente, and the surrounding cities. See our service area for the full list.
